Introduce a manageable sound-spelling relationship, model it clearly, then use it in blending and word reading. Application helps children understand why the relationship matters.
Keep reading broader than phonics
Children also build oral language, vocabulary, knowledge, fluency and comprehension. Phonics is an important mechanism for decoding, not the whole of literacy.
